Jane Porter goes country once again!

Introduction by Melissa Amster

**Giveaway is now closed**

I’ve been a Jane Porter fan long before I started Chick Lit Central. I even wrote a tribute to her a while back. She has this down to earth way of writing, where you feel like you can really relate to her characters, even with all their flaws intact. The mere fact that she found a way for me to like a not-so-likable character says a lot for her storytelling finesse!

She’s so good to her fans too. Anytime you visit her blog, there’s almost always a fantastic giveaway going on. And all you have to do is tell her how your week is going in order to enter.  This time, she’s bringing the giveaway to International Chick Lit Month readers, as she has TWO fun prize packages to send WORLDWIDE that include one book of each reader’s choice, with the exception of “The Frog Prince,” which is unfortunately out of print.

Today, she’s talking about where one of her characters is now. She chose Shey Darcy, the heroine of “She’s Gone Country.” If you haven’t read the book yet, this is a spoiler alert. Read ahead at your own risk. Otherwise, read “She’s Gone Country” ASAP and then come back to see what Shey is up to these days. Don’t worry, this post isn’t going anywhere!

You can find Jane at her website and blog, as well as Facebook and Twitter. You can also pre-order her first novel in her next chick lit series (The Brennan Sisters.) It’s called “The Good Woman.”

Country Loving
By Jane Porter

Shey Darcy, the heroine in She’s Gone Country, and a former SI model from a tiny town in Texas, returns to her family ranch just outside Mineral Wells, Texas with her three teenage sons in the beginning of the novel.  Recently divorced, she’s juggling raising boys, finances, and her attraction to first crush, Dane Kelly, a former national bullriding champ.

Like Shey, Dane’s been married and divorced, as well as injured on the circuit.   He’s not looking for a family but if he allows Shey back into his life, he’s going to have a family, and her boys aren’t easy…especially middle son, Bo, who is struggling with depression, but the chemistry is too strong between Dane and Shey for her to stay away.

It’s been a couple of years now since Shey and Dane married and had their baby girl.  The baby girl is now in preschool and looking forward to Kindergarten.  Shey’s two oldest sons, Hank and Bo, are in college, and youngest son Cooper is a junior in high school and making a name for himself on the amateur rodeo circuit as one hell of a good cowboy.

Shey’s in a really good place.  She’s so happy being back in Texas—she’s always been a country girl at heart–and is very content in her role of mom and wife to the still incredibly hot, and sexy Dane Kelly.  Shey continues to take the odd modeling job as long as it doesn’t interfere too much with her family time, and in the last couple of months, Dane’s begun to hint that he might be open to one more baby…if she is.

Shey’s almost 45.  She wasn’t planning on having any more kids and is already mom to four.  Could she handle one more child now? Does she have the energy?  Could she even get pregnant?   And yet, Dane loves being a dad, and he’s a great father.  He enjoys their daughter so much, and he’s been terrific with her three boys, in particular, Cooper, training him for the rodeo circuit.  Truthfully, Shey would be open to another baby—another adventure—and there’s definitely room in Shane’s sprawling limestone ranch house.  Maybe it wouldn’t hurt to explore their options, see if it could happen…

Life is good in Texas.  Shey has everything in life she ever wanted….her man, her children, her laid back life on a working ranch.  Shey might have spent twenty some years in New York City, but she’s always been a country girl at heart.

I have to say, I love Jane Porter. Not only for her books, but I will always remember how on a giveaway on Chick Lit Central, Jane decided to give EVERYONE who commented a book! When I received the package, it was not only a book, but lots of swag as well and came as such a pleasant surprise! Not to mention the nice e-mail response I had gotten back from her when I e-mailed her to let her know how much I appreciated the kind gesture! How could you NOT love an author like that?! 🙂

I Told You So by Carrie Underwood

  37. I haven’t read any of Jane’s Chick lit titles but I love her category romances. I’ve lived in the country for most of my life but am not a big fan. I had a young man with a intellectual disability living with us for four months a couple of years ago and he played the one C&W CD over and over. I got to know those songs very well and realised that they were all angst ridden. THey sunk in so much I actually started to write stories based on ideas they spawned. You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille, The Coward of the County and Ruby, Don’t take your love to town. One completed story and two partials to date. Hilarious and probably unpublishable. Gotta love Country after all. ;-].

  38. Cassie Parks says:

My favorite country song is Airstream Song by Miranda Lambert.
